Francisco Javier Alvarez-Leefmans, MD, PhD, is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright State University, Dayton, OH. He earned his MD from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and his PhD in Physiology from University College London, where he also completed postdoctoral training under the guidance of Professors Sir Bernard Katz and Ricardo Miledi. In 1997, he received the Guggenheim Fellowship in Natural Sciences
