Dr. Umakanta Tripathy is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, India. Previously, he has served as a visiting scientist in the Department of Chemical Sciences, TIFR, Mumbai, India (2013-2014) and a casual employee in the Department of Physics, McGill University, Montreal, Canada (2011-2012). Apart from this, he also has postdoctoral research experiences in the Department of Physics and Chemistry, McGill University, Montreal, Canada (2008-2011) and the Department of Chemistry, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada (2006-2008). His research interest is in biophysics, nonlinear optics, and ultrafast laser spectroscopy, specializing in instrumentation, harmonic generation and multi-photon imaging (in-vitro, in-vivo, and ex-vivo), biomolecular interactions, and single-molecule biophysics. He has received Government of India recognition for developing a novel tool to study alpha-synuclein protein aggregation, recognition for proposing a suitable drug candidate against SARS-CoV-2, Marquis Who’s Who in the World, and awarded research fellowships in India and abroad. He has been a reviewer for several international journals. He has 23 years of experience in research & development and 14 years in teaching. He has published more than 50 research articles in peer-reviewed international journals and authored numerous book chapters. He is also a member of several scientific societies, including the Indian Photobiology Society (IPS), Indian Physics Association (IPA), Orissa Physical Society (OPS), Indian Society for Radiation and Photochemical Sciences (ISRAPS), Society for Interdisciplinary Research in Materials and Biology (SIRMB), and International Society on Optics Within Life Sciences (OWLS).
