The book has its origins in a screenplay Meeske wrote with Terry Southern (co-author of Candy) about a jewel thief. Hollywood was years away from taking on Southern, so by injecting liberal amounts of sex, and offering a co-starring role to an 18th century woman's hairpiece, this work was born.
