This book discusses as well the preclinical aspects of tranquilizers, particularly those dealing with benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepines acting through the benzodiazepine receptor. The final chapter deals with the various behavioral and electrophysiological effects of cocaine in animals, which presumably reflect both local anesthetic properties and action on monoamine mechanisms.
