Description

In a turbulent geopolitical terrain, this book explores the complex dynamics of interstate integration between India’s Northeast, Myanmar, and China’s Southwest. As India and China expand their cross-border connectivity and infrastructure projects in Myanmar, this volume critically examines how these efforts shape regional development, influence foreign policy, and fuel strategic competition. While both nations engage with Myanmar bilaterally, their mutual apprehension, evident in military face-offs and infrastructure races, has hindered deeper institutionalized collaboration. Despite this, Myanmar remains a focal point in their geo-economic strategies, balancing engagement with two powerful neighbors while grappling with its own political and economic challenges. The book moves beyond bilateral narratives to examine the larger regional interplay with a comparative analysis of investment in infrastructure, energy, and defence. It will benefit scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in India-China relations, Myanmar’s foreign policy, and the broader geopolitical shifts in South and Southeast Asia.
