Bianca Maria Piraccini is former Professor in Dermatology and Venereology at the University of Bologna, Italy, Head of the Dermatology Division at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, University of Bologna, Italy and Director of the Residents Programme in Dermatology and Coordinator of the PhD in Surgical Science and Innovative Technology at the same university. She is Voluntary Professor, Department of Dermatology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, Florida, USA.

After graduating with honours in 1989 from the University of Bologna Medicine School and completing her Residency in Dermatology at the same institution, she earned her PhD in Dermatological Sciences in 1995. From a position as a Researcher in Dermatology, she moved to Associate Professor and then Full Professor in Dermatology. 

Her main research fields include hair biology and pathology, trichoscopy, nail biology and pathology, onychoscopy, and medical mycology. She is a member of the Italian Society of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (SIDeMaST), the European Hair Research Society (EHRS, past president), the European Nail Society (ENS, past president), the Council for Nail Disorders (CND, member of the Board), the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), the American Hair Research Society (AHRS), and the Italian Society of Trichology (SITRI). 

Prof. Piraccini was awarded the “Domenico Majocchi” Study Prize by the University of Bologna for the best degree thesis and the John Ebling Prize  for her career in 2025 by the European Hair Research Society. She authored a Top-Accessed Article on White Superficial Onychomycosis. 

Prof. Piraccini is the author of 569 peer-reviewed scientific papers -with more 11.000 citations and an h-index value of 61 (Scopus Nov 2025)- 74 chapters, and has edited 11 monographs on dermatological diseases. She has lectured widely at national and international congresses and courses.
