Dr. Bassel H. Mahmoud, MD, PhD, FAAD, is a Professor of Dermatology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA and board certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. He completed Dermatology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, he completed a Mohs micrographic surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship at Lahey Clinic / Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the Vitiligo Clinic and Research Center at UMass, and one of the few dermatologists in the US performing the cell transplant Melanocyte-Keratinocyte Transplantation Procedure (MKTP) for vitiligo with many years of experience.
Dr. Mahmoud served as a member of Organizational Structure Committee and the Public Education Committee of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is currently on the American Academy of Dermatology skin healthy Magazine Editorial Board. He has authored multiple research publications and textbook chapters on skin cancers, vitiligo, and other topics. He is an editorial reviewer of multiple research journals. He has lectured on skin cancers, vitiligo, and pigmented skin diseases; and has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences. He has won many awards and grants including the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery cutting edge research grant and American Skin Association for his work on the surgical treatment of vitiligo.
